Borgo Salcetino
Borgo Salcetino is a productive reality of Chianti Classico that diligently creates expressions of great typicity and elegance born from the territory of Radda in Chianti, one of the 8 municipalities of Chianti Classico. The estate was acquired in 1996 by Valneo and Tonino Livon, members of a renowned family of Friulian producers who decided to invest in one of the most important, famous, and vocated Italian wine regions like that of the Gallo Nero. From that moment on, the Livon family initiated a gradual process of renewing the vineyards, both in terms of vine density per hectare and varietal selection, as well as restoring the winery while preserving its original characteristics.
The Borgo Salcetino estate includes 15 hectares of land, half of which is dedicated to vineyards, with a predominant presence of traditional grape varieties Sangiovese and Canaiolo, alongside smaller percentages of Merlot planted for experimental purposes. The plants grow on hilly soils of medium texture characterized by the simultaneous presence of clay, sand, and silt and by abundance of galestro. Furthermore, the grapes benefit from the significant temperature variations between day and night that characterize the area of Radda in Chianti. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, and the grapes are then vinified in red through alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with complete malolactic fermentation. The subsequent aging takes place in oak barrels for more or less prolonged periods depending on the wine in question.
The labels produced by the Borgo Salcetino winery are four: the ‘Rossole’, a “Supertuscan” made from Sangiovese and Colorino grapes; the Chianti Classico, an expression of great typicity from the territory of Radda in Chianti; the Chianti Classico Riserva ‘Lucarello’, a complex interpretation with great longevity; and the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione ‘I Salci’, a structured and elegant red wine. In general, they are highly territorial wines capable of conveying the essence of the Radda in Chianti area.
