BARBERA D'ASTI 'CIAPIN' ANDREA SCOVERO 2019 DESCRIPTION

Barbera d'Asti 'Ciapin' from the Andrea Scovero winery is a fresh, intense and fruity red wine produced in the hamlet of Bionzo in Costigliole d'Asti, in the province of Asti, Piedmont. It is made from pure Barbera grapes from vineyards located on gentle hills with excellent sun exposure at around 300 metres. The vines, between 14 and 40 years old, are trained using the espalier method with guyot pruning on soils characterised by clayey, sandy-calcareous soils. The winery is a small family-run business, owning about 6 hectares of vineyards, now in its third generation and managed by Andrea Scovero, a true wine craftsman with a reserved nature who pursues a path marked by a continuous search for the highest quality while respecting organic farming, with great ecological and environmental awareness.

Andrea Scovero's 'Ciapin' Barbera d'Asti is made from carefully selected grapes harvested by hand around the first ten days of September. Once the grapes reach the cellar, they are destemmed and gently crushed before alcoholic fermentation. They use only indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks with maceration on the skins for about 25 days. The wine is then racked and pressed, after which it matures in stainless steel containers until the spring following the harvest before being bottled without filtering and being ready for sale.

Barbera d'Asti 'Ciapin' has a beautiful deep ruby red colour with light purple highlights. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe fruit and berries appear, including black cherry, plum, blackberry and raspberry, with floral notes of red flowers, spicy hints of black pepper and liquorice, and then turn to slight balsamic, including menthol, and earthy hints. On the palate, it is powerful, warm, juicy and enveloping; it is characterised by a pleasant acid shoulder that provides freshness and fine, well-integrated tannins. This from the Andrea Scovero winery is a rich and juicy red, energetic and articulate, produced with genuine craftsmanship.
