The Blanc de Morgex Cru "Rayon" from Cave de Morgex et La Salle is a white wine with a fresh and delicate profile made from the native Prié Blanc grape variety of the Aosta Valley. It is a wine born at high altitude, at the foot of Mont Blanc, and it carries the characteristics of an extreme terroir that is challenging to cultivate. It represents a challenge undertaken by the courageous vignerons of Valle d'Aosta, who, following ancient traditions, have continued cultivating vines in rugged and difficult areas, giving us the pleasure of a truly unique white wine.
The "Rayon" is one of the flagship labels of the Cave de Morgex et La Salle estate. The winery collects and vinifies grapes from small local vignerons, which have been united into a single production entity for many decades. The Prié Blanc grape variety has very distinct characteristics that make it perfectly suited to the challenging climatic conditions of the region. It has a concise vegetative cycle. It buds late to avoid spring frost and matures early to ward off the first frosts that herald autumn. It is often still grown on its roots, as phylloxera does not survive the low temperatures of high altitudes. The vineyards of Morgex et La Salle rise to nearly 1200 meters above sea level, among the highest in Europe, along with those in Vispertimen in the Valais. After gentle pressing, the must undergo alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel. The wine matures for about 9 months in stainless steel before being bottled.
The Cru "Rayon" Cave de Morgex et La Salle is a white wine with a taut and vibrant profile, expressing all the freshness of the high-altitude climate and the finesse of the Prié Blanc grape. The colour is a delicate straw yellow. On the nose, it offers a subtle and refined bouquet with delicate scents of wildflowers, mountain herbs, and hints of citrus, peach, and white fruit. The palate is saline, with a light fruit character and a lively and fresh finish.
