BOLONERO TORREVENTO 2019 DESCRIPTION

Torrevento's Bolonero is a wine originating in northwestern Murgia, in the area near Castel del Monte. The history of the Liantonio family began in 1923 when the progenitor Francesco returned from America and decided to invest his small fortune in some land in his beloved Puglia: in Paolo del Colle, he began a rudimentary production of wine and extra virgin olive oil. In 1948, together with his brother, he bought a former Benedictine monastery located in the "Torre del Vento" district, expanding and sophisticating its production: two years later, the full-fledged Torrevento winery came to life with the start of wine marketing in Italy and abroad. In the early 1990s with Francesco Liantonio, a thriving business with a well-defined identity was born, now at the top level of markets around the world.

The Nero di Troia and Aglianico grapes of Torrevento's Bolonero grow in vineyards located about 350-400 meters above sea level. The soil is alluvial in origin and of medium texture, mainly composed of limestone and clay for an elegant final product with character. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot but never excessively sultry summers and mild winters, thanks to the influence of the sea. Harvesting usually takes place between the second and third decade of October and is done manually. In the cellar, alcoholic fermentation takes place with a short maceration on the skins; it is aged in steel and rests 8 months in the bottle.

The colour of Torrevento's Bolonero is an intense ruby red, with reflections tending toward the garnet due to the prolonged stay in the bottle. The bouquet is broad and reminiscent of sweet spices and wild berries such as blackberry and strawberry; in the mouth, it is elegant, enveloping and intense, with good harmony and a pleasant savoriness that balances the overall structure for a curious drink. Perfectly paired with grilled and roasted red meat cuts, local game and cured meats, also interesting with aged cow's milk cheeses. Perfect for delighting the family holiday table, enjoying a product that encapsulates the genuine flavours of the Apulian land, becoming its undisputed ambassador.
