The Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva “Campaner” from Cantina di Caldaro is a red of breadth, energy, and exuberance. It is an expansive wine yet extremely refined in its rigor and precision, all typical of South Tyrol. Lake Caldaro, where the estate's vineyards are located, enriches the grapes with a pleasant saline trace, integrated with a fine minerality given by the limestone rocks. Each vineyard is maximized for its expressive capabilities, always putting the quality of the grapes at the center. Similarly, each winemaker is made part of a single group that works daily to vinify the grapes of this magical territory of South Tyrol.
“Campaner” is composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and 15% Merlot grapes, coming from vineyards with a southern exposure, located on hills with an altitude ranging from 250 to 350 meters above sea level. The vines have an average age between 10 and 25 years and thrive on stony and calcareous soils, rich in clay and equipped with good draining capacity. The alcoholic fermentation, with maceration on the skins for about 2 weeks, takes place in steel containers, while the malolactic fermentation and aging of 16 months occur in barrique, a quarter of which are new. Filtration precedes bottling and subsequent marketing.
The Riserva di Cabernet Sauvignon “Campaner” from Cantina di Caldaro shows a very intense and bright ruby red color. The nose clearly perceives notes of black fruit reminiscent of blackberry and blackcurrant, set against a fine spicy background of pink pepper. The taste expresses all the intensity of the juice, with a full and smooth body, accompanied by a well-perceptible but finely chiseled tannic structure. This Cabernet is energetic like the South Tyrolean sun, which makes the green of the meadows and the blue sky shine.
