CERASUOLO DI VITTORIA 'DAKRY' BENIAMINO FEDE 2020 DESCRIPTION

Cerasuolo di Vittoria 'Dakry' is probably the most representative label of the small Beniamino Fede winery in Licodia Eubea, in the northeastern part of the denomination. The history of Sicilian viticulture began with the domination of Ancient Greece, with particular regard to the southeastern side of the island where the district of Vittoria, largely included in the province of Ragusa, is located. The Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita Cerasuolo di Vittoria was established in 2011 and, to date, is the only DOCG in Sicily. As evidence of the link between Greece and the island, the appellation 'Dakry' originates from ancient Greek and means 'tear'.

Beniamino Fede Cerasuolo di Vittoria 'Dakry' derives from a blend of Nero d'Avola (70%) and Frappato (30%), varieties cultivated on medium-textured soils at altitudes between 280 and 300 metres above sea level. In particular, the Frappato vines are rooted in sandy, clayey and calcareous soils, while the Nero d'Avola vines are rooted in purely calcareous-clayey soils. Harvesting takes place at the end of September, and the alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously in temperature-controlled stainless steel silos, the same type of wine vats where the mass remains to mature for 10 months before bottling. This is followed by at least 6 months of bottle ageing.

'Dakry' Cerasuolo di Vittoria Beniamino Fede has a slightly discoloured ruby red colour with luminous reflections. The nose has aromas of black cherry, cherry and blackberry, as well as vegetal hints and persuasive red flower aromas. In the mouth, it shows character and a good body, with enveloping softness well supported by decisive freshness and well-integrated tannin. Durable, savoury, and fruity returns.
