Artisanal
Callmewine's FavouritesThe Etna Rosso "Rosso di Mezzo" from the Fedegraziani winery has an explosive and volcanic character capable of giving intense sensations to those who have the pleasure of tasting it. It is made with a blend of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Alicante, and Francisi, spontaneous fermentation in open vats, and aging for 24 months in steel. The color is dark ruby red, and the intense aromas released recall red currants, wild blackberries, caper leaves, and aromatic herbs. The sip is full, fruity, elegant, and has a mineral finish.
Etna Rosso "Rosso di Mezzo" by Fedegraziani has one foot in the past, in a history that spans a hundred years, and one in the future, in the potential expression of a newly planted vineyard. The eclectic winemaker Federico Graziani has designated this label as an expression of the ancient vines in Passopisciaro, in the four plots owned in the Feudo di Mezzo area that will meet, in the coming years, a young own-rooted vineyard nearby. This label originates on the north side of the highest active volcano in Europe, which rises 600 meters above sea level, shaken by the salty air and the strong sirocco wind. It is a timeless blend of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Alicante, and Francisi.
The "Rosso di Mezzo" Etna Rosso tells the story of the union of pre-phylloxera vines and those resulting from mass selection carried out on the oldest vineyards. All the vines are traditionally trained to bush, each plant is positioned at an equal distance from the others on all sides and supported by a chestnut pole. The vines are manually tended on the slopes of Etna and no pesticides or systemic treatments are used. It originates from fermentations by indigenous yeasts in open tanks, with no temperature control. The aging lasts 24 months in steel followed by 6 months in bottle.
Fedegraziani "Rosso di Mezzo" has a lively character, blending the zest of red orange with the balsamic imprint of aromatic plants. It surprises with its smoothness, offering flesh and freshness, given by a mineral finish. It follows with a fruity and elegant palate with hints of red forest fruits combined with pomegranate and a slight note of incense. The typical terroir of the Sicilian volcano identifies an intense, clear, and bright wine.
