Gewurztraminer Dr. Fischer - Hofstatter 2023
Dr. Fischer - Hofstatter's Gewurztraminer is a fresh and aromatic white wine produced in Rheinhessen, Germany. The nose expresses notes of dried flowers, white-fleshed fruit and slight spicy nuances, very common for this grape variety, while the palate is full and enveloping, supported on the finish by an unexpected smoky note. Ideal paired with fish dishes, or to drink as an aperitif!
The Gewurztraminer from Weingut Dr. Fischer – Hofstatter is an expression of Rheinhessen that is appreciated for its typical aromatic notes of the grape variety of origin. The German winery Dr. Fischer was founded in 1910, but the ownership was taken over in 2017 by Martin Foradori Hofstätter, a producer from Alto Adige who represents the fourth generation of winemakers in the Hofstätter family. What drove Martin to embark on this winemaking adventure in Germany is his strong passion for Riesling, a variety that gives its best in the German territory. In addition to focusing on Riesling, the producer has brought his knowledge to work with other grape varieties common in Alto Adige, such as Gewürztraminer.
Dr. Fischer – Hofstatter Gewurztraminer comes from only grapes of the homonymous aromatic variety grown in Rheinhessen on soils characterized by an abundant presence of gray slate. After manual harvesting, the grapes are transferred to the winery and subjected to a few hours of pre-fermentation maceration before the soft pressing. The must obtained is left to decant statically and then started to alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Followed by a few months of aging always in steel, aimed at enhancing the freshness and the aromatic signature of the wine.
The Gewurztraminer from Dr. Fischer – Hofstatter has a brilliant straw yellow color. The nose evokes aromatic notes of white-fleshed fruit, apricot, lychee, and dried flowers, surrounded by mineral nuances and light spicy hints. Rich, broad, and enveloping the tasting, supported by good freshness and light smoky notes on the finish. Due to its characteristic aromaticity, Gewurztraminer pairs beautifully with spicy dishes from Eastern cuisine.
