Gewurztraminer Erste+Neue 2024
The Gewürztraminer is one of the most peculiar aromatic grape varieties in Italy, and the one from Erste+Neue is no exception. Literally translatable as 'Spicy Traminer', the reason for the name is evident on the nose: in addition to aromas of flowers and mountain fruits, the typical lychee and cinnamon are distinctly perceived, an intriguing combination. The elegance on the nose is found on the palate where pleasant mineral sensations meet a vibrant freshness
The Gewurztraminer Erste+Neue is part of the classic line of the famous Caldaro winery. A range of wines specifically created to highlight the varietal characteristics of each single grape variety and the terroir of origin, through particularly delicate and careful vinifications. This famous northern European grape variety has adapted very well to the climate of Alto Adige, becoming one of its enological symbols. The cultivation at altitude allows for a combination of aromatic richness and softness, with a good freshness typical of wines that are born in the mountains. The result is a label that is intense yet smooth and fragrant, offering immediate pleasure.
The white Gewurztraminer Erste+Neue is the fruit of one of the most important cooperative realities in Alto Adige. The winery manages a total of about 250 hectares, divided into small plots. The vines are cultivated on slopes, often terraced, that rise from the lowest part of Mendola towards the reliefs of the Dolomites. The predominant south-facing exposure ensures excellent lighting and significant temperature variations, due to the cold winds descending from the mountains, slow down ripening with an excellent accumulation of aromas. The Gewurztraminer vines are located in beautiful hilly areas, at an altitude between 350 and 450 meters above sea level, on clay and sandy soils. After a brief cold maceration, the grapes are gently pressed and the must is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The entire process takes place in total oxygen protection to avoid oxidation. The wine matures for several months in steel tanks on the fine lees.
lychee and passion fruit. On the palate, it has a good structure, with a harmonious, intense, and aromatic sip, well balanced by a savory and fresh finish.
