Gewurztraminer 'Gess' Eredi di Cobelli Aldo 2022
The Gewurztraminer "Gess" takes its name from the Trentino territory of chalky origin where the vines of this variety over 50 years old grow. Notes of ripe tropical fruit, pineapple syrup, acacia honey, menthol peaks, and essences of sweet flowers are released from a warm and glyceric body, perfectly supported by a decisive freshness
The Gewurztraminer “Gess” from the Eredi di Cobelli Aldo winery is an intense, full-bodied, and aromatic white wine produced in Sorni di Lavis, in the province of Trento, in Trentino Alto Adige. The grapes come from vineyards located on hills at about 450 meters above sea level with excellent exposures and a sub-alpine climate. The vines, which are nearly 50 years old, are trained using the traditional Trentino pergola method with low yields on soils characterized by gypsum soils, which give the name “Gess” to the wine, with small amounts of silt and clay. The winery is a small family-run business, owner of about 8 hectares of vineyards, that aims to enhance the indigenous varieties of this wonderful territory that is very suited to viticulture.
The “Gess” Gewurztraminer from Eredi di Cobelli Aldo is produced with carefully selected and hand-picked grapes at the time of their optimal ripeness. The bunches are brought to the winery where, after destemming, they undergo a cold prefermentative maceration on the skins for about a week to release color and aromas before fermentation occurs. This is followed by pressing and alcoholic fermentation at low temperatures, which takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel containers for several weeks, after which the wine remains in aging for at least 12 months in stainless steel containers before bottling for future marketing.
The Gewurztraminer “Gess” presents itself with a beautiful bright straw yellow color tending towards golden. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe yellow fruit and tropical fruit appear, including peach, pineapple, lychee, and mango, floral notes of rose and white flowers, spicy hints of pink pepper, then shifting to slight chalky hints, menthol peaks, and sweet notes reminiscent of acacia honey. On the palate, it is rich, warm, soft, and enveloping, characterized by a nice body and good freshness. This wine from the Eredi di Cobelli Aldo winery is a typical, seductive, and juicy white, full and intense, but always well balanced by a well-measured freshness that gives pleasure to the sip.
