Gewurztraminer 'Maceration' Pierre Frick 2022
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamicGewurztraminer by Pierre Frick is an alsatian white wine fermented with native yeasts, macerated on the skins and aged in old oak barrels. Persuasive notes of exotic fruits and citrus fruits are complemented by sensations of sweet spices and floral touches. On the palate it shows an enveloping, soft and elegant structure, despite the decided freshness. It ends long and persistent.
The Gewurztraminer Maceration by Pierre Frick is a heady and rich nectar, a creation of one of the masters of Alsatian wine. It is easy today to talk about artisanal wine, given the constant growth of those who choose to work in a respectful and non-invasive way. Associations, fairs, and increasingly attentive consumers are certainly helpful. Much more difficult and visionary was Pierre Frick's project, who in 1970 had already converted his vineyards to organic farming, and in 1981 even to biodynamics. Sensitivity, vision, and intuition. Today, Pierre produces some of the most exciting and multifaceted wines in the region, backed by decades of knowledge and numerous harvests. An absolute master.
The Maceration Gewurztraminer is obtained from pure grapes of the same variety, coming from vineyards that rest on limestone soils rich in marls and sandstones, in the municipality of Pfaffenheim. In the vineyard, as already mentioned, the precepts of biodynamics are followed, and in the cellar, the same spirit continues. The alcoholic fermentation takes place therefore spontaneously and, in the case of this Gewurztraminer, there is a skin maceration of about 7 days. The aging lasts 6 months in oak barrels over 80 years old and is bottled without the addition of sulfur.
The Frick Gewurztraminer Maceration presents itself in the glass with an enchanting intense golden hue, shifting towards amber. A liquid that does not hide its richness and from the very first sniff unfolds an unquantifiable variety of references. Orange peel, exotic fruit, oriental spices, dog rose, lychees: a true celebration of aromas. On the palate, one might expect an opulent wine, but Pierre's liquid surprises with how it manages to combine softness with an extremely smooth tasting dynamic. A champion in its own right!
