The Gutturnio Superiore “Vignamorello” La Tosa is a red wine with a good structure and flavor profile, a sincere and territorial expression of the Piacenza area. It is a historic label for the Pizzamiglio brothers, whose first vintage dates back to 1988. It is a typical blend of Barbera (60%) and Croatina (40%), indigenous grape varieties of the area that give the glass a balanced and enveloping sip.
The “Vignamorello” Gutturnio Superiore gets its name from the area where the grapes are produced, namely the Morello vineyard, located at an altitude of 200 meters on a clayey-loamy soil of ancient red earth formed after the uplift of the Po Valley. The harvest is done manually between the end of September and the beginning of October, in order to bring perfectly ripe grapes to the winery. The maceration on the skins lasts about 12-15 days and allows for the extraction of a greater quantity of color and tannin that will later be found in the glass. After alcoholic fermentation, it ages for 6 months in barriques of first or second passage and, once bottled without any clarification and filtration, it will rest for another 10 months in the bottle, as required for this Superiore version of Gutturnio.
The Gutturnio Superiore “Vignamorello” is a sincere and generous expression of Barbera and Croatina with an intense ruby color and good structure, softened by a brief passage in wood. On the nose, it releases a succession of aromatic herbs, marjoram, thyme, and rosemary, followed by notes of graphite and resins with a broad background of ripe red fruits. On the palate, it is enveloping, full-bodied and with long persistence. Faceted and deeply mineral, it pairs perfectly with meat main courses and aged cheeses.
