'Ilbio' Lungarotti 2021
Organic and biodynamic"Ilbio" is Torgiano red wine from Sagrantino grapes that is aged for 30 months in 30 hl oak barrels. The nose is an explosion of aromas: red fruit jam, sweet spices, tobacco, cocoa and balsamic memories. The sip shows intensity and thickness, is rich, warm and concentrated, wrapped in a silky and soft tannin
The Umbrian wine "Ilbio" is a medium-structured red, endowed with good longevity and excellent versatility when it comes to food pairings. On the nose, it has a nice hint of red fruit, while on the palate, it presents an elegant and decisive sip upon entry, characterized by a tangible alcoholic component. A perfect label for all seasons, with which Lungarotti tells the story of Umbrian Sagrantino through a simpler and more direct guise, without sacrificing a strong personality.
This "Ilbio" is made from the grapes of an indigenous red grape variety that is the pulsating symbol of the quality of Umbrian viticulture, the Sagrantino. This variety is cultivated by Lungarotti using the spurred cordon system, in plots exposed to the south, characterized by a highly draining and moderately deep clayey subsoil. The must ferments in steel tanks, remaining in contact with the skins for 25 days. The subsequent aging takes place in barrels with a capacity of 30 hectoliters for 10 months, and then continues, after bottling operations, for another 6 months directly in glass.
The "Ilbio" by Lungarotti is a red that reveals itself in the glass with a typically ruby color, characterized by a concentrated hue. The bouquet of notes that envelops the nose moves on a spicy progression, enriched by touches of fruit jam and hints that recall tobacco and more balsamic notes. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, broad and enveloping, with a finely integrated tannin in the overall sip; it closes with a finish that has excellent persistence. A bottle that combines established quality, confirmed by the good scores assigned to it by nationally and internationally important guides, with a truly enticing price: not trying it would be a real shame.
