The Kerner from Abbazia di Novacella is a semi-aromatic white wine: a fresh and bright expression of Alto Adige. Pleasant floral and mineral notes, with hints of yellow fruit, engage the senses and introduce a fresh and dynamic sip, with savory aromas on the finish
The Kerner from the Abbazia di Novacella is a wine from South Tyrol with an intense and aromatic character, made from the homonymous grape variety, created in Germany in the 1920s by crossing Riesling Renano and Schiava Grossa. The result is a white grape variety with rich scents and aromas, but also endowed with good structure and complexity. The Kerner has perfectly adapted to the cool climate of the Isarco Valley, producing wines of great personality and character. It is one of the most famous and appreciated labels of the renowned winery of the Abbazia di Novacella, which for centuries has represented the history and tradition of wine in South Tyrol.
The Kerner wine is the perfect synthesis between a grape variety with rich and broad aromas and the territory of the Isarco Valley. The Abbazia di Novacella is located in the Varna area, in a splendid natural amphitheater of morainic nature. It is the northernmost grape-growing area of South Tyrol, towards the Brenner border. The cool climate and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night create the conditions perfect for bringing to maturity the white grape varieties of the Central European area. The Abbazia di Novacella has been producing wine since the 12th century and has always been a reference point for the collection of grapes from owners of small plots and farms in the area. In addition to the 25 hectares of owned land, it manages 50 hectares of contributing members. The possibility of having many parcels in the best positions of the valley allows the winery to produce high-quality wines that are perfectly faithful to their territory of origin.
The white Kerner from the Abbazia di Novacella comes from vines cultivated in the basin of Bressanone, at an altitude between 650 and 800 meters above sea level, with a sunny south-facing exposure. The soils are predominantly of ancient morainic origin, composed of gravel and sand, very draining and rich in minerals. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine always matures in steel for at least 6 months before bottling. The color is straw yellow with slight and bright greenish reflections. The bouquet expresses intense floral notes, aromas of yellow fruit, peach, and apricot. The taste is full and rich, with ripe fruit that leans towards soft tropical hints, well balanced by a mineral vein, culminating in a persistent finish with lively freshness.
