
Kerner 'Carned' Cantina di Caldaro Kaltern 2024

The white wine “Carned” is a pure Kerner, a little-known grape variety that, in Italy, finds one of its rare places of choice in the high Adige terroir. The Cantina di Caldaro, a leading cooperative at the regional level, excels in presenting this grape with an exotic profile in its aromas, a prelude to a precise and attentive sip, refreshing on the palate. A bottle that deserves a spot in the cellar of every enthusiast.
This Kerner “Carned” is born from the pure use of a particular grape, the Kerner. It is a variety created in Germany in 1929, whose final result brings it very close to Riesling, strongly suited to being cultivated in the mountains, and thus feels at home in Alto Adige. The vines, whose age ranges from 10 to 30 years, are trained using the pergola and guyot systems, in vineyards located at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level, characterized by a sandy and clayey subsoil. The grapes, once harvested and brought to the facilities dedicated to the winemaking of the Cantina di Caldaro, ferment slowly at a temperature of 18 degrees, both in steel and in wood, where the fermentation process occurs spontaneously. The aging takes place in steel for five months, during which the wine remains in contact with the fine lees.
The white wine Kerner “Carned” reveals itself visually with a color reminiscent of intense straw yellow. The olfactory profile develops on an aromatic weave, with notes of fruit, including exotic ones, enriched by a slight nuance that recalls coconut milk. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with a medium structure, featuring a sip characterized by a pleasantly fresh vein, encouraging a repeat of the drink with the right intensity. A white made by Cantina di Caldaro that pairs well with fresh cheeses or dishes based on fish, even raw.
