Lianti' Capichera 2023
The "Lianti" by Capichera is an intense and full-bodied red wine made from Carignano, aged for 12 months in barrique. It has a varied and fruity aromatic profile, with hints of ripe cherries, berries, coffee, and sweet spices. On the palate, it is warm, soft, and structured, with a generous and supported character.
The “Lianti” is a red wine with a intense and elegant character, aged in barriques for about a year. It is based on Carignano, an ancient red grape variety found in many countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea: in Spain it is called Cariñena and in southern France Carignan. It is a grape that has proven to be particularly suited to warm, windy, and dry climates, expressing itself with particular finesse on sandy soils of granitic disintegration. The name of the wine comes from the Gallurese dialect expression “Lianti”, which means east, the cardinal point from which the sun rises and symbolically also life, towards which the Tomba dei Giganti of Capichera is oriented, depicted on the labels of the winery. An ancient and monumental place of worship that dates back as far as 4000 years ago.
The red “Lianti” is made from grapes from the vineyards owned by Cantina Capichera, managed partly according to the ancient and traditional bush-trained system and partly with more modern guyot systems. The vines have an age of an average of about ten years and are cultivated with a density of about 5,000 plants per hectare. The dry, very windy climate and the poor soils naturally limit yields, which do not exceed 70/80 quintals per hectare, thus ensuring grapes with good aromatic concentration. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks, with a maceration period on the skins lasting about 3 weeks. It then matures in barriques for 12 months and completes the aging with a few months in the bottle before being marketed.
The “Lianti” wine from Capichera confirms the high quality level achieved by the winery, now firmly positioned among the most interesting realities of the Sardinian territory. It is a red wine that manages to combine intensity and structure with great drinkability and expressive immediacy. Thanks to aging in wood, it combines fruity notes with more mature tertiary evolution aromas, which enrich its multifaceted aromatic profile. The color is intense ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, it expresses notes that reminiscent of soft oriental spices on a background of dark berry fruit, completing the picture are toasted notes and herbs typical of the Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it has good body, with fine tannic structure, interesting complexity, and aromatic concentration, which unfolds towards a persistent finish.
