'Masseria' Cambria 2020
Masseria delle Colline Furnaresi is a Sicilian red wine that comes from the assembly of Nocera and Nerello Mascalese grapes and is aged in oak barrels of different sizes for 4 months. With aromas of cherry, sweet spices, Mediterranean herbs, almond and light toasted and vanilla notes, it reveals a fresh and enveloping texture, with a well-modulated tannin and a precious mineral nuance
“Masseria delle colline Furnaresi” from the Cambria winery is a red wine produced in one of the historic wine areas of Sicily. It originates, in fact, on the northern coast of the Messina coastline, right where in ancient Roman times the famous Mamertino wine was produced, much loved by Julius Caesar. The hills of the wonderful Furni area, overlooking the sea, host the Nocera vines, an ancient variety of the territory, which is experiencing a period of rediscovery, and those of Nerello Mascalese, which is present not only on Etna but throughout northeastern Sicily, where it expresses itself at high qualitative levels. The blending of the two grape varieties gives a red wine that is rich, intense, and elegant.
The wine “Masseria” is produced by one of the Sicilian wineries that boasts ancient origins and that is still today a strong point of reference for the entire territory of the Mamertino area. Cambria was founded around the mid-nineteenth century and cultivates about 25 hectares of vines from the Furni area, at altitudes between 150 and 350 meters. The soils are composed of limestone marls, with the presence of schists and volcanic rock. The climate is typically Mediterranean, always breezy due to the presence of the Maestrale and the mild sea breezes. At the end of the harvest, the grapes undergo fermentation at controlled temperature with maceration on the skins. The wine matures for about 4 months in French oak barrels of various sizes and completes its aging with a few months in the bottle before being put on sale.
a fresh and pleasantly savory finish.
