Merlot La Vis 2024
Perfect to drink every dayThe Merlot from the La Vis winery is a soft and fruity red wine from Trentino, aged for several months in cement tanks and oak barrels. It expresses notes of berries and aromatic herbs and has a fruity, clear, pleasant, and enveloping taste, soft and medium-bodied.
The Merlot from the La Vis winery is one of the red wines in the i Classici range, comprising a series of labels with an excellent quality/price ratio obtained from single grape varieties. In this case, we are facing a pure Merlot, an entirely Trentino interpretation of the well-known international grape variety, characterized by softness, fruit, and good freshness. The in-depth study of the territory and the strict quality standards that over 800 winegrower members must adhere to allow for the production of brilliant, pleasant, and balanced expressions, as in this case.
The Merlot La Vis comes from hilly vineyards located in the municipalities of Gardolo and Lavis, in the Sorni area, situated in the upper Val d'Adige, near the Val di Cembra. We are at about 280 meters above sea level, on sandy-loam soils originating from alluvial debris in the valley floor. The vine training systems are either guyot or simple Trentino pergola, with a density of about 5,000 plants per hectare. The harvest is carried out manually in the first decade of October, and the winemaking takes place in the winery located in the municipality of La Vis. Here the grapes are destemmed and pressed, and the must is fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in vitrified concrete tanks, where the wine remains to age on fine lees for 5 or 6 months and, for about 10%, in French oak barrels of third and fourth passage.
This Merlot expresses the most typical traits of the grape variety, combined with territorial terms that enhance all the freshness typical of the pre-Alpine valleys. On the nose, delicate hints of red fruit and berries emerge, particularly blackberry and plum, along with nuances of aromatic herbs and underbrush spices. On the palate, it is soft and fruity, well-balanced and with decent persistence. It pairs optimally with not overly structured dishes based on mushrooms, red and white meats, revealing good gastronomic versatility.
