It is a label that, although inspired by the famous Bordeaux models, perfectly expresses the character of the territory of the Menfi estate. It is produced with Merlot grapes and a small addition of Petit Verdot, coming from a single vineyard. Thanks to a long aging in wood, it offers mature and complex aromas that fascinate and seduce with notes of red fruit, floral nuances, and aromatic herbs. Intense and persistent, it is an ideal red to enjoy with roasts, grilled meats, or mixed grills.
The “Sito dell’Ulmo” is a Merlot produced by a winery that has been a protagonist in the rebirth of Sicilian wine. It is a label that originates in Sambuca di Sicilia, within the territory of the Planeta estate in Menfi. The property extends over a total area of 400 hectares, of which about 250 are dedicated to viticulture. The grapes come from the Ulmo vineyard, planted in 1987 on the shores of of Lake Arancio. The vines are cultivated at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level, in a natural environment rich in forests and biodiversity. The area is characterized by alluvial soils, rich in pebbles, very draining and suitable for the needs of Merlot. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and fermented at a temperature of 28 °C, with a maceration on the skins of a couple of weeks. The wine matures for 14 months in Allier barriques, 50% of which are new, and completes the aging with a few months in the bottle before being released for sale.
