Perfect to give as a giftThe Montepulciano Riserva San Clemente by Zaccagnini is an identity-rich Abruzzese red with an intense sparkling ruby red appearance that releases fruity aromas of currants, blueberries, and sour cherries, framed by spicy scents of cardamom and coffee, with balsamic details. On the palate, it is seductive yet characterful, with integrated tannins and a finish of Mediterranean herbs.
The Montepulciano Riserva “San Clemente” by Zaccagnini is a structured and intense wine, made from the most widespread native red grape variety in the region. The Riserva version, also thanks to a long aging in wood, presents itself with complex, dense, and rich aromas, typical of aged Montepulciano, but with a more elegant and soft face compared to the youthful harshness of the grape. It is one of the flagship labels of the Zaccagnini winery, which well represents the ancient Abruzzese tradition of producing important red wines to be served with game dishes, roasts, or stews.
The red Montepulciano Riserva “San Clemente” is produced by the Zaccagnini winery in the vast company estate of about 300 hectares, located near Bolognano in contrada Pozzo, in the province of Pescara. The beautiful hilly exposures of the Pescara hinterland and the proximity to the sea contribute to creating a particular microclimate, which has proven perfect for the cultivation of Montepulciano. The temperate climate allows for a slow and progressive ripening of the grapes with a perfect balance between sugars, acids, and aromatic components. Once the harvest is completed, the grapes are pressed and sent for fermentation in oak vats with controlled temperature and maceration on the skins with periodic manual punch downs. It ages for 18 months in French oak barriques. Before being released on the market, it completes its aging with a few months in the cellar.
The Montepulciano Riserva “San Clemente” is the most typical red of Abruzzo, offered in its richest, most intense, and evolved version. It is an important wine that expresses all the power and vigor of a great grape variety and a generous territory. In the glass, it has a very intense ruby red color. On the nose, it is characterized by aromas of sour cherry, plum, small berries, licorice root, and spices. On the palate, it has important body and structure, with rich fruit, spicy, toasted notes, vanilla, and noble woods. The tannic texture is dense and well integrated into the body of the wine, and the finish has great flavor persistence.
