The Morellino di Scansano ‘Roccapesta’ from the production company Roccapesta is a red wine capable of showcasing the full character of Maremma Toscana, a territory where Sangiovese takes on distinctly Mediterranean characteristics. In this area, the Roccapesta winery cultivates 30 different clones of Sangiovese, planted in various soil and environmental conditions, in order to reveal the different facets of this famous black grape variety. What has made Roccapesta great is the passionate approach of each member of the estate, aimed at enhancing the excellence of Morellino di Scansano while respecting the environment and the essence of the territory.
Roccapesta Morellino di Scansano ‘Roccapesta’ originates from a solid base of Sangiovese, to which 4% of Ciliegiolo grapes is added. The vines have an average age of 20 years and are planted in clayey soils rich in skeleton, at an altitude ranging from 200 to 270 meters above sea level. The yield in grapes per hectare is very low, and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand with careful selection of the bunches. This is followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins for 22 days, after which the mass is transferred to oak tonneau for aging for one year. After an additional 12 months of refinement in the bottle, the wine is finally ready for release on the market.
Upon visual examination, the ‘Roccapesta’ Morellino di Scansano from the Roccapesta winery shows a ruby red color with garnet reflections. The olfactory profile is broad and intense, composed of sensations of cherry, red flowers, and sweet spices, combined with hints of Mediterranean herbs. The progression on the palate is full, flavorful, and balanced, with a velvety tannic structure that accompanies the long taste persistence.
