The Negroamaro from Lizzano “Tarantula” by De Quarto is a Puglian red from the Lizzano area, one of the areas suited for Negroamaro. This bottle pays homage to Salento culture, where the tarantula lends its name to liturgical rituals and folk dances. A wine that is a child of its land, inky red and fruity, with aromas of cherry, plum, with saline hints and sweet spices. Full, round, and substantial on the palate, it has persistence and warmth that make it excellent to pair with food. It is a wine that can meet meat dishes from all over the world, but it is incredible with a typical Puglian delicacy, the ‘bombetta’!

Through its extroverted and substantial character, the Negroamaro di Lizzano 'Tarantula' from the Apulian winery De Quarto aims to reveal the enological potential of Negroamaro and the territory of Lizzano. The denomination Negroamaro di Lizzano is one of the types of the broader DOC Lizzano and requires a minimum percentage of 85% Negroamaro grapes. The production area roughly corresponds to the Ionian Arc, and viticulture seems to have been introduced in the area by Spartan colonists around 700 to 600 BC. The name 'Tarantula' recalls the ritual of tarantism, traditionally performed in the province of Taranto to cure and exorcise tarantism, and is today considered a symbol of local popular culture.

'Tarantula' Negroamaro di Lizzano De Quarto is a pure Negroamaro from vines cultivated in the Apulian bush training system on red limestone soils, excluding the use of pesticides or chemical herbicides. The harvest is usually done by hand during the second half of September and the bunches are then crushed in stainless steel tanks for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature, associated with prolonged contact between the must and the skins. The subsequent maturation phase takes place always in steel for a few months, and the wine is finally bottled and left to rest for a further short period before being released on the market.

The Negroamaro di Lizzano 'Tarantula' from the De Quarto estate has a dark ruby red color. On the nose, distinct notes of ripe plum and sour cherry emerge, enriched by hints of licorice and iodized nuances on the finish. Tasting development is full, warm, and round, very persistent and material, supported by pleasant freshness and soft tannins.
