The Nerello Mascalese "Bio Vegan" from the Sicilian winery Nicosia is a volcanic and sparkling red wine that tells the story of the territory from which it comes. The vineyards are located on soils composed of volcanic sands and the winemaking takes place entirely in steel at controlled temperature. The color is intense ruby red with bright reflections and the aromas released recall berries, wildflowers, and slightly spicy sensations. On the palate, it is fresh, dynamic, lively, with dry tannins and a clean finish. 

The Nerello Mascalese “Bio Vegan” from Cantine Nicosia was born from the desire to propose a young and fragrant version of the most famous grape variety of Etna, to make its true varietal character known. To meet this need for absolute purity, grapes from vineyards cultivated under organic farming are used, and careful vinification is practiced only in steel, adhering to the Vegan regulations and involving a very low use of sulfites. The result is a fresh and fruity red, healthy and genuine, which very well represents the idea of a straightforward wine, an authentic and direct expression of the terroir.

The “Bio Vegan” Nerello Mascalese is produced by one of the largest and most important estates of Etna. Cantine Nicosia is located in Trecastagni, on the southeast slope of the volcano, and manages a vast property divided into numerous parcels, all situated in highly suitable areas. The Nerello Mascalese vines are cultivated at a height ranging from 650 to 750 meters above sea level, on the classic soilsof Etna, consisting of sands from ancient lava flows, lapilli, and volcanic rocks. These are loose and very draining soils, rich in minerals. At the end of the manual harvest, the bunches are sent for fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine matures for a few months in steel tanks and is marketed after 3 or 4 months of bottle aging.

The Nerello Mascalese “Bio Vegan” from Cantine Nicosia is a red with a strong personality and a young, dynamic character. It is the perfect bottle to discover the authentic face of this elegant indigenous variety from the Etna area. In appearance, it has a beautiful light ruby red color with bright reflections. The bouquet offers floral scents of iris and violet, notes of aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean scrub, aromas of raspberry, marasca, red currant, wild strawberries, and hints of delicate spices. On the palate, it has medium structure, with elegant tannins, a fragrant and harmonious fruit, leading to a fresh, savory finish with goodtasting persistence.
