The Nerello Mascalese "Eruzione 1614" is a rich and full-bodied red wine, made from grapes grown on the slopes of Etna, vinified in steel and aged in barrel for 12 months. The aromas are intense and complex, of red fruits, dry leaves, and wild spices, the taste is elegant, balanced, and dynamic, supported by fine tannins and fruity and spicy tones.

The Nerello Mascalese "Eruzione 1614" by Planeta is one of those red wines that ascends to the rank of excellence. The historic Sicilian winery has been telling the story of its land and the most intimate expressions of its territory for five centuries, especially in those areas most suited for the different grape varieties.

Speaking of areas of great importance, one cannot fail to mention the magical volcano that dominates the southwestern part of the island: Etna. This wine is dedicated to one of its eruptions, that of 1614, the longest of all time, lasting 10 years of pyrotechnic explosions. The Nerello Mascalese vines grow at different altitudes, from 510 meters up to 850 meters above sea level, where the Cru of Etna Sciaranuova is located, where the lava flow of 1614 actually stopped. The soils on which the vineyards are rooted are of a greyish tone, due to the presence of lava sands rich in minerals typical of the volcanic area. The grapes, after manual harvesting, are immediately refrigerated and selected in the cellar. After destemming, alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel, with the presence of the skins, for 21 days. Once the racking operation is completed, alcoholic fermentation occurs, still in steel. The aging lasts for a period of 12 months in oak barrels of 25 and 36 hectoliters.

The Nerello Mascalese "Eruzione 1614" emerges in the glass with a bright ruby red. On the nose, the aromas refer to those of the volcano, through notes of incense, medicinal herbs, and sulfurous puffs. Then follow hints of underbrush fruits and spicy memories. Vibrant on the palate, it envelops with a fine and silky texture, it is elegant, powerful, and balanced. A wine of fine expressiveness that rises from the ashes of the magical chimney.
