The Pinot Nero from Abbazia di Novacella is a young and fragrant Alto Adige red, made from the famous Burgundy grape variety, which has found in these lands the conditions to express itself at excellent quality levels for centuries. The brief aging in large barrels helps preserve the integrity of the varietal aromas of the grapes. A wine that captivates with crisp aromas of small forest fruits and an immediate pleasantness on the palate. Elegant and medium-bodied, it is perfect to enjoy with roasted white meats or with lamb cooked pink.
The Pinot Nero wine from Abbazia di Novacella is one of the classic reds of this historic reality of Alto Adige. Wine has been produced in its cellars since the 12th century and still today it represents the most important brand of the Valle Isarco. In addition to the white grape vineyards cultivated in the Bressanone area, it has several estates in the Bolzano and Appiano area, where it cultivates red grape varieties. The Pinot Nero grapes come from the Cornaiano estate. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 350and 420 meters above sea level, with exposure facing north, northwest. The cool climate, with good temperature excursions between day and night and the suitable soils, consisting of ancient morainic deposits, contribute to creating a perfect habitat for this demanding French grape variety. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with a skin maceration period of a couple of weeks. Before bottling, the wine matures for about six months in 60-hectoliter oak barrels.
