The Pinot Noir Riserva "Monticol", known in previous vintages as "Montigl", is a full-bodied, intense wine made from the highest-altitude and oldest Pinot Noir vines at the Terlano winery. It has a complex bouquet of wild berries and spices, with a hint of smokiness. On the palate, it is balanced and intense, with a lovely length

The Pinot Nero Riserva “Monticol”, previously marketed by the Terlano winery under the label “Montigl”, comes from a selection of the oldest vineyards grown at altitude, which naturally yield low quantities of high-quality grapes. The particularly cool and breezy climate of the Terlano area has proven highly suited to the renowned Burgundy grape variety, which has been cultivated in South Tyrol since the 19th century. This is a version of Pinot Nero distinguished by its elegant profile, refined bouquet, and pleasantly smooth sip.

The Pinot Nero Riserva “Monticol” is produced by one of the most renowned and prestigious wineries in South Tyrol. The Terlano winery has over a century of history and today works with grapes from more than 140 small South Tyrolean growers, who cultivate parcels in highly suitable areas. The vineyards lie on the slopes of Mount Tschöggel, on soils of porphyry of ancient volcanic origin and sandstone. The availability of a wide range of plots allows each variety to be cultivated in the most suitable area. For Pinot Nero, high-altitude sites with sunny exposures to the south and southwest have been selected, particularly suited for such a demanding and delicate variety. The winery’s philosophy focuses not only on quality but also on the valorization of each terroir, through wines capable of expressing strong typicity and authenticity.

The red Pinot Nero Riserva “Monticol” from the Terlano winery comes from the homonymous cru located on the slopes of Mount Zoccolo, at an altitude between 450 and 760 meters above sea level. The sunny exposure and significant temperature variations favor perfect grape ripening. After manual harvest, the clusters are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel with maceration on the skins. The wine matures for 12 months, partly in large oak casks and partly in barriques, both new and used. In the glass, it shows a garnet color and an elegant, multifaceted aromatic profile with notes of small forest fruits, soft spices, and mineral hints of flint. On the palate, it is agile and smooth, with a fine tannic structure, delicate and complex flavors that lead to a savory and fresh finish. An excellent Pinot Nero with a distinctly South Tyrolean character, fresh, fruity, and savory.
