The Pinot Nero "Saltner" is a high-altitude red wine from Alto Adige that loves to present itself with the captivating gaze of someone who knows its worth. Yes, because if Pinot Nero as a varietal is already able to seduce the palate of many enthusiasts scattered around the world, even more so this elegance is felt in this label signed by Cantina di Caldaro Kaltern, characterized by the typical fruity bouquet on the nose and a smooth drink that caresses the mouth with a round and satisfying sip, always in perfect balance. Positive adjectives abound for this bottle, which, despite that, also offers an excellent quality/price ratio.
This red wine "Saltner" is a pure Pinot Nero, whose grapes are cultivated in vineyards owned by the winery that are over 10 years old. We are at about 400-550 meters above sea level, in parcels that face southeast and northeast. The clusters, hand-picked at full ripeness and in perfect condition, are destemmed, and the obtained berries proceed to the pressing phase. The must ferments in oak vats, macerating for two weeks at a controlled temperature of 25 degrees, also undergoing malolactic fermentation. The subsequent aging lasts for 12 months, and takes place both in barriques and tonneaux. Before bottling, a light filtration is carried out.
The "Saltner" presents itself visually with a classically ruby color and slightly pale. The crunchy fruit invades the nose with subtle and delicate aromas, opening up to a range of more spicy notes, derived from the aging period spent by the wine in wood. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with a sip that gently enters the mouth, highlighting a fresh taste structure and a refined tannin. A red wine where refinement is the key word that accompanies the entire tasting phase.
