Riesling Abbazia di Novacella 2025
The Riesling from the ancient Abbey of Novacella is a fresh, young white wine ready to drink. The vineyards are located in the Bressanone basin, an area characterized by soils composed of permeable moraine deposits that give sapidity and minerality to the grapes. The color is pale yellow with greenish reflections due to the short aging in steel, while layered aromas are perceived on the nose, where citrus notes are followed by scents of white flowers. The taste is delicate and fruity, reminiscent of white-fleshed fruit, and the sip concludes with an intense sapidity
Riesling is a white wine with a fresh and mineral character, belonging to the Classica line of wines from the Abbazia di Novacella, a historic producer from Alto Adige. The winery is located in Valle Isarco, the northernmost area of our peninsula where vines are cultivated. In this territory, in the heart of the Alps, a grape variety like Riesling, originally from Central Europe, expresses itself at excellent quality levels with whites that interpret the aromatic profile of the variety very well. Its unmistakable personality makes it particularly suitable for pairings with vitello tonnato, pumpkin ravioli, salmon, or slightly spiced dishes.
Riesling is born in the wonderful area of Varna. On the sunny slopes of the Bressanone basin, the Abbazia di Novacella mainly cultivates white grape varieties, and Riesling has found its ideal area right here, in the heart of Valle Isarco. The vineyards are located at a height between 650 and 800 meters above sea level, with well-sunned exposures facing south, southeast, and southwest. The very cool climate and the stony soils, composed of moraine deposits with the presence of many minerals, including micaschists, gneiss, and quartzites, have proven to be very suitable for the needs of the famous northern grape variety. The slow ripening of the clusters allows for harvesting grapes with particularly rich aromatic profiles. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 17-19 °C. The wine matures for 6 months in steel tanks before being bottled.
The Riesling Abbazia di Novacella is a white wine with a typically mountainous profile, a pure expression of the Alto Adige terroir. To the eye, it reveals a light yellow color with delicate greenish reflections. Fragrant and elegant, it offers a bouquet with aromas of white flowers, notes of orange blossom, lime zest, citrus aromas, green apple, peach, white-fleshed fruit, and refreshing hints of wild herbs typical of mountain flora. On the palate, it is clear and smooth, with a sip characterized by fragrant fruit, crossed by a clear savory trail, leading to a finish of vibrant mineral freshness. Already excellent to taste immediately, it is a white wine that has a good aging potential and reaches its full expressive maturity after one or two years of bottle aging.
