Falkenstein's Riesling is a white wine of medium body and good structure, aged for 7 months in maple wood. Soft and fragrant to the nose, with scents of wild flowers and honey, the palate shows good minerality and dynamism, with savory notes towards the end
Riesling is one of the most characteristic vines of the Naturno area, in Val Venosta, where Franz Pratzner, owner of the Falkenstein farm, produces his own version of this autochthonous variety, defined by many at the top of the South Tyrolean and national expression. Only a short time ago the Falkenstein farm started to be dedicated to viticulture: in the past the focus of the production was concentrated on the cultivation of fruits, an activity also typical of Val Venosta.
Fifteen years ago Pratzner decided to start vinifiing grapes from the seven hectares surrounding the Falkenstein farm, spread between 500 and 900 meters above sea level, with impressive slopes that make every process quite challenging, made possible thanks to terraces patiently designed over time. The Riesling covers about half of the vineyards of the Falkenstein property, which boast excellent southern exposure and a soil particularly rich in minerals.
Falkensteinìs wines, created from a real form of heroic viticulture, bring a stylistic mark of deep expressiveness, according to a more German than Italian wine making approach. Riesling is, in particular, an austere and complex wine, with a profile of great elegance and a finish with vibrant mineral scents: in every glass of this wonderful wine signed by Falkenstein the echo of a border territory returns, able to create products with an unmistakable identity.
