Riesling Falkenstein 2024
The Riesling from Falkenstein is a medium-bodied white wine with good structure, aged for 10 months in acacia wood. Soft and fragrant on the nose, with aromas of wildflowers and honey, on the palate it shows good minerality and dynamism, with savory notes in the finish.
The Riesling from the Alto Adige winery Falkenstein has been considered one of the best Italian labels for years, made from the grapes of this extraordinary white berry variety native to Central Europe, which produces some of the best wines in the world in the Moselle region. The cool climate and the suitable soils of Val Venosta have proven to be perfect for achieving excellent results, becoming a true second homeland for the grape variety. Its fresh and elegant profile and its intense aromatic richness make it one of the most interesting whites in the region.
The white Riesling is one of the most famous wines produced by Franz Pratzner, who established the Falkenstein winery at the end of the 1990s near Naturno, in the heart of Val Venosta. The Riesling vineyards are cultivated at an altitude between 700 and 900 meters above sea level with sunny exposures facing south, on very steep slopes, with terraces supported by dry stone walls. The climate is cool and characterized by significant temperature fluctuations. The morenic soils are rich in sand and gravel, particularly granite, slate, gneiss, quartz, and mica. They are poor and very draining soils, perfect for the needs of Riesling. After soft pressing, the wine ferments and matures in large acacia wood barrels and completes its aging with a year in the bottle before being put on sale.
The Riesling wine from Falkenstein is the product of a great terroir and one of the most talented and rigorous winemakers in South Tyrol. In appearance, it presents a bright light yellow color with brilliant reflections. The bouquet is intense and elegant, with floral aromas, citrus fragrances, flavors of white-fleshed peach, green apple, hints of Val Venosta apricot, delicate honeyed nuances, and rocky and mineral sensations. Clear and of remarkable expressive tension, it offers a rich sip, with deep and persistent aromas crossed by a vibrant freshness, leading to a long and savory finish. To be tasted with fish dishes, seafood pasta, delicate white meats, or fresh cheeses.
