Organic and biodynamicThe Riesling Grand Cru "Sommerberg" by Aimé Stentz is a granitic white wine, with great freshness and aromatic richness. With mineral and fruity notes, aged for 12 months in barrel
Sommerberg represents one of the Grand Crus vinified by Aimé Stentz, a territory recognized as particularly suited since the early 1200s. The "hill of summer", as its name can be literally translated, gives rise to Riesling grapes of particular mineral quality, which perfectly reflect the crystalline spirit of the wines they create. The careful interpretation of this terroir is the foundation of the most prestigious Rieslings of the estate.
The Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg vinified by Aimé Stentz comes from the area of the village of Niedermorschwihr, located just west of Colmar, on the slopes that rise along the sides of the Vosges mountain range. The soil is characterized by a granitic substrate composed of siliceous rocks, the so-called "mica of Turckheim", in an advanced state of disintegration: this results in the formation of a true granitic sand rich in mineral elements very favorable to viticulture. The vines are over 30 years old and are forced to push their roots deep, clinging to dizzying slopes that reach 45%. One must also consider the significant altitude, which rises to 400 meters above sea level in full south exposure. The manual harvest takes place at the moment of complete ripeness: the bunches are pressed whole and gently, through a pneumatic press. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks through the action of indigenous yeasts, while aging proceeds for 12 months in large 100-year-old oak barrels, according to the established Alsatian tradition.
Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg made by Aimé Stentz presents itself with a clear straw-yellow appearance with warm golden reflections. The nose impacts complex and elegant aromas that express the brightness and sweetness of candied citrus peels and quince jam, with a sugary hint of light honey and ripe yellow peach, all refreshed by a hint of lime. The background is a robust mineral quality that openly declares itself on the palate: the sip is vertical and tense, composed of vigorous salinity and pronounced freshness, blended with a fruit-reminiscent softness. A Riesling for great enthusiasts, to be confidently paired with smoked fish dishes.
