The Riesling with which Domaine Schlumberger creates the cuvée “Prince Abbés” comes from the plots planted on the lieu-dit Bollenberg and in the territory of 3 Grand Cru, extending along the slopes of the hill that rises steeply in front of the village of Guebwiller. Saering, “the ring of the sea”, features ancient marine origin soils and reaches nearly 300 meters in altitude; Kessler, with rocky soils, reaches an altitude of 390 meters and its sinuous layout forms hollows that protect the vines from the rigors of the climate; Kitterlé, a pinnacle with a 60% slope and therefore sunny from morning to evening, is surrounded by stone walls that contain terraces of poor, sandy soils.marine origin and reaches nearly 300 meters in altitude; Kessler, from rocky soils, reaches an altitude of 390 meters and its sinuous layout forms hollows that protect the vines from the rigors of the climate; Kitterlé, a pinnacle with a 60% slope and therefore sunny from morning to evening, is enveloped by stone walls that contain terraces of poor, sandy soils. The harvest is done by hand and whole bunches are gently pressed. After static decantation, the clarified must is started for alcoholic fermentation, which can last up to 30 days, inside ancient oak foudres with controlled temperature. The aging in wood continues on the fine lees for about 8 months.
Riesling "Princes Abbés" by Schlumberger presents a golden color with bright reflections. The nose offers intense and varied citrus notes, from sweet mandarin to yuzu and lemon zest, with tropical nuances of ripe pineapple, spices, and a hint of ginger. The palate is distinctly connected to the nose, with a soft presence of yellow-fleshed fruit, in a framework of powerful freshness and taut minerality, following a persistent finish of bitter salinity.
