Rkatsiteli Grand Cru 'Tsarapi' in Anfora Our Wine 2023
ArtisanalThe Rkatsiteli "Tasarapi" by Our Wine is an amber white wine from Georgia with ancestral charm and an extreme and unconventional aromatic profile. It is produced in terracotta amphorae with long maceration on the skins and stems; then bottled without filtration. It is intense, full-bodied, powerful, and very complex, featuring aromas of spices and ripe fruit and a dense tannic structure.
The Rkatsiteli Grand Cru “Tsarapi” by Our Wine is a deep and distinctive orange wine, as well as an exciting dive into one of the cradles of wine and skin-macerated whites. We are not in the habit of indulging in extravagant praise, but at a historical moment when so-called orange wines are finding their rightful place, one cannot overlook the knowledge of one of the regions that gives life to some of the best macerated wines in the world, namely Kakheti, located in the heart of Georgia. The reasons for such powerful and deep expressions can be traced mainly to a winemaking history of very long standing, to the extent that Georgia is considered the first country to have planted the vine as we know it today, as well as a pioneer in the use of terracotta amphorae during vinification and aging. The wines of Our Wine are among the most brilliant witnesses of the place, capable of literally captivating anyone who approaches them, returning the intensity and taste of an ancestral flavor.
The Rkatsiteli Grand Cru “Tsarapi” wine is obtained from pure Rkatsiteli grapesfrom a single cru called Tsarapi where 35-year-old vines are planted on limestone soils. In the vineyard, as often happens in the region, no chemical or synthetic substances are used, and the dictates of biodynamic agriculture are followed. In the winery, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation of whole bunches occurs, and aging takes place in 12 months in quevri, that is, the Georgian terracotta amphorae. The liquid undergoes neither clarification nor filtration.
The Rkatsiteli “Tsarapi” by Our Wine presents itself in the glass with a deep amber color. The olfactory impact is clear, engaging, and extremely complex, where notes of dried orange peel, peat, aromatic herbs, and licorice emerge, resulting in an extremely changing profile. The sip is impetuous and truly a thoroughbred, due to a well-defined tannin and an extremely long persistence, which has the taste of tradition. Emblematic.
