Roma Bianco Poggio Le Volpi 2024
The Roma Bianco from the Poggio Le Volpi winery is a white wine from Lazio that captivates with its aromaticity and freshness. Thanks to the lavish label, it echoes and celebrates the richness of Ancient Rome, produced with Malvasia Puntinata grapes and aged for a few months in steel. The color is brilliant straw yellow and the aroma overwhelms with notes of exotic fruit, white flowers like orange blossom, and aromas of orange peel. The taste is floral, fruity, fresh, and with a long, mineral finish.
The Roma Bianco by Poggio Le Volpi is the label of memory, heritage of one of the wine regions richest in history in Italy. Already in ancient times, the hilly area around Rome was completely vineyard and produced wine for the Urbe. Today the tradition continues with a production of whites, which after a difficult period, is finding its way back to excellence. Some passionate producers have decided to bring the territory back to its ancient splendor, especially by using Malvasia Puntinata, the most widespread grape in the area, capable of giving wines with a soft profile and aromatic richness.
The Roma Bianco wine is born in Monteporzio Catone, where the Poggio Le Volpi winery is located. Founded in the 1990s, drawing on a long family tradition in viticulture, it has always been committed to enhancing the territory, through the cultivation of the historical grape varieties of the place. The Malvasia Puntinata vineyards are cultivated in the Colli Romani area, which extends south of Rome towards Frascati, in an area always suited to viticulture thanks to a Mediterranean climate, mitigated by the breezes of the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea. The ancient volcanic soils, rich in precious mineral substances, are perfect for enhancing the aromatic profiles of white-skinned grapes. At the end of the harvest, soft pressing is carried out and the free-run must ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Before proceeding to bottling, the wine matures for a few months on the lees in steel tanks, in order to acquire greater structure and complexity.
The Roma Bianco, made by the Lazio winery Poggio Le Volpi, is a sincere interpretation of the territory in the name of tradition. For structure and aromatic characteristics, it is a bottle very suitable for gastronomic pairings, both with seafood dishes and with some classics of Roman cuisine such as pasta alla carbonara or pasta alla gricia. Visually, it presents a straw yellow color with bright greenish reflections. The bouquet is rich and expressive, with scents of white flowers, citrus hints, aromas of ripe white fruit, soft tropical notes, shades of fresh almond and aromatic herbs. On the palate it is harmonious and savory, with intense fruity aromas, a balanced finish and good taste persistence, characterized by a pleasant mineral freshness.
