The Rosso di Montalcino ‘La Caduta' by Caparzo is an elegant wine from an exceptional cru south of Montalcino, with a richness and complexity ‘like Brunello'. On the nose, it offers fruity notes reminiscent of dark berries like blackberries, then intense hints of cherry and sweet spices on the finish.  On the palate, it is warm, very clear, and well-balanced, with a sip of great harmony. An excellent wine now but also one to keep for many years in the cellar.

Rosso di Montalcino 'La Caduta' by the Tuscan winery Caparzo is a pure Sangiovese Grosso that presents the freshest and most youthful look of the Ilcinese terroir, interpreted by the Caparzo estate. This Rosso di Montalcino is made with grapes from the 'La Caduta' vineyard, hence the label's name, a 7.5-hectare plot located south of Montalcino. The winery's idea is to offer a fine cru of Rosso, of higher quality than the denomination's average, far from the notion of 'Brunello's little brother' to which Rosso di Montalcino has been, rightly or wrongly, relegated.

Caparzo 'La Caduta' Rosso di Montalcino is a 100% Sangiovese Grosso from vines grown on the southwest side of Montalcino on sandy soils rich in sandstone and pebbles, at an altitude of 280-300 meters above sea level. After harvesting, which is done by hand, the grapes are mash in stainless steel tanks for temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation that lasts for 7 days, combined with a total of 17 days of maceration on the skins, fermentation and post-fermentation. Subsequent malolactic fermentation takes place spontaneously while the 12-month maturation takes place between stainless steel and oak barrels. After further adequate bottle aging, the wine is finally ready for release.

To the eye, the Rosso di Montalcino Caparzo 'La Caduta' exhibits a deep ruby red color. Fascinating hints of small berries, such as blackberry, red currant and cherry, describe the olfactory texture along with hints of licorice and sweet spices such as vanilla. The progression on the palate is warm and sharp, harmonious and crisp, with a lingering, dry finish enhanced by velvety tannins.
