The Rosso Riserva “Viafrancia” by Baglio di Pianetto comes from vineyards located in Contrada Pianetto in Santa Cristina Gela, in the inland area of Palermo. This is a high hill area, situated 650 meters above sea level and characterized by a cool climate, with significant temperature variations between sunny days and the cold of the night hours. The soils are medium-textured, clay-based, very richof skeleton and mineral substances. The harvest is done manually during the month of September and the best bunches are further selected before proceeding to vinification. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts and maceration on the skins with pump-overs and délestage. The wine matures for 9 months in steel and then for about 24 months in French oak barriques, partly new and partly second passage, and completes its aging in the bottle until it reaches full expressive maturity.
