Sancerre 'Les Calcaires' Lucien Crochet 2022
Callmewine's FavouritesThe Sancerre "Les Calcaires" by Lucien Crochet is a pure Sauvignon produced in one of the most prestigious and historic terroirs of origin: the Loire Valley. The deep and multifaceted minerality that characterizes the aromatic bouquet is an unmistakable trait of the limestone soil of Buë, from which this label takes its name. The same sapidity is found on the palate, more measured and enveloping.
The Sancerre Blanc “Les Calcaires” from Domaine Lucien Crochet is a pure Sauvignon Blanc produced in the Loire Valley, a true chosen territory for this beloved white grape variety. The wine is born from the blending of grapes coming from different parcels of the estate, which are mainly located in the area of Bué. The profile is refined and elegant with floral aromas, fruity notes, accompanied by typical mineral hints of the territory. The sip, fresh and savory, is characterized by a fruit that well expresses the delicately aromatic characteristics of the grape variety.
The white “Les Calcaires” is produced in the estate of Lucien Crochet, which extends over 35 hectares, of which 26 are well cultivated with Sauvignon Blanc. The parcels are mainly located in the area of Bué, apart from some plots situated in the nearby municipalities of Sancerre, Crézancy, and Vinon. The soils are predominantly calcareous-clay in nature and rest on a subsoil of Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian limestones. The exposures of the vines vary from east to south to west and are at an altitude of around 250 meters above sea level. The vines are trained to Guyot and the harvests are all carried out manually. After soft pressing of whole clusters, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine always matures in steel for a few months before being bottled with a light filtration.
The wine “Les Calcaires” is the fresher and more fragrant version of the Sancerre from Domaine Lucien Crochet, the one that best interprets the varietal characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc cultivated in the Loire terroir, in a simple and direct way. The color is bright light yellow. The olfactory profile opens with aromas of white flowers, fruity aromas, delicate iodized nuances, and typical flint hints of the terroir. The sip is elegant, intense, and smooth, thanks to a lively freshness that leads to a pleasantly salty finish.
