Sangiovese 'Renudo' Tomassetti 2023
Artisanal
Callmewine's FavouritesThe Sangiovese “Renudo” by Tomassetti is a very fresh version of the most widespread red grape in Italy. To make it lively and super easy-drinking, the Tomassetti brothers use the technique of carbonic maceration, ideal for extracting fragrance and aromaticity from the grape. On the nose, flowers and red fruit impact with intensity, also thanks to the slight carbonation that tickles the nose and enhances the aromas. Hints of must and blood orange juice complete the picture. On the palate, the ‘Renudo’ is fresh, energetic, the sip is smooth and juicy even though not light, thanks to slight tannins that provide a pleasant structure. Perfect with cured meats, not to be overlooked with intense fish dishes: try to believe!
The Sangiovese 'Renudo' from the young winery Tomassetti in the Marche region is characterized as a bottle with intense fruity and floral aromas due to the winemaking technique that involves a long carbonic maceration of the grapes. This processing method, widely used for novello wines and Beaujolais, involves the introduction of whole grape clusters into the fermentation tank without prior destemming or crushing. At this point, the closed tank can be saturated with exogenous carbon dioxide or left to fill with the CO2 produced spontaneously during fermentation, and in the latter case, it will be a semi-carbonic maceration. This triggers an intracellular fermentation in the berries that leads to the development of characteristic notes of crunchy fruit and flowers.
Tomassetti 'Renudo' Sangiovese is an expression of the homonymous black grape variety cultivated under certified organic practices, integrated with biodynamic methods. The vines are over 40 years old and are planted in clay-limestone soils. Following the manual harvest, the grape clusters are vinified whole in stainless steel tanks with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and 20 days of carbonic maceration. The subsequent maturation phase takes place always in steel and lasts for 6-7 months on the fine lees before the final bottling.
The 'Renudo' Sangiovese from the Tomassetti brothers presents itself with a light and bright ruby red color. Vivid hints of fresh cherry, blackberry, and violet characterize the olfactory profile, accompanied by peculiar notes of citrus and grape must. The taste, fresh and lively, stands out for its juicy progression and moderate tannic structure, attributes that contribute to making the sip extraordinarily drinkable. The fragrant returns in the finish evoke fruity and floral sensations consistent with the nose.
