Syrah 'La Clarissa' Rallo 2024

The Syrah “La Clarissa” from the Rallo winery is a soft and spicy red wine produced in Alcamo in the province of Trapani, in that part of Western Sicily at the foot of Monte Bonifato overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The “Clarissa” is made from pure Syrah grapes, an international grape variety that has been present in Sicily for many years. The vineyards, located in Patti Piccolo at an altitude between 300 and 350 meters, are exposed to the northeast and southwest and are cultivated using the guyot method on medium-textured soils. The winery, founded in 1860 in a fortified baglio, now owns 100 hectares, of which 68 are planted with vines cultivated according to the principles of organic farming.

The “Clarissa” Syrah from Rallo is produced from grapes hand-picked in 15 kg crates towards the end of September. After careful selection and a soft pressing of the bunches, the must is fermented in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature of 22-24 °C with skin maceration for a period of about 14days. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is racked and remains in aging in stainless steel containers for 6 months, after which it is bottled and after a month of maturation in the bottle it is finally ready to be marketed.

The Syrah “Clarissa” presents itself with a bright ruby red color with intense violet reflections. On the nose, there are aromas of ripe fruit and berries, including plum, blackberry, and currant, floral notes of violet, spicy hints of black pepper and cinnamon, and Mediterranean scrub scents with balsamic references. On the palate, it is full-bodied, soft, and round with young tannins and a pleasant freshness that nicely softens the alcoholic strength.
