TORGIANO ROSSO RISERVA 'RUBESCO VIGNA MONTICCHIO' LUNGAROTTI 2017 DESCRIPTION

Rubesco Vigna Monticchio is a wine from the Lungarotti winery that stands out for its class and elegance. It is not easy to consistently maintain yourself as a wine benchmark on the Italian scene, especially if you have a history of more than 50 years. The Lungarotti winery, located in Torgiano but with vineyards also located in Montefalco, has succeeded in this feat by always maintaining the high quality standard of its wide range of products, seeking a careful mediation between tradition and measured modernity. Today the winery consists of about 250 hectares under vine, with native varieties such as Sagrantino, Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Grechetto and other international ones such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Grigio. A guarantee, since always.

The red Rubesco Vigna Monticchio is one of Lungarotti winery's flagship wines and comes from a blend of Sangiovese and Colorino. Stunning in its ability to age, the grapes suitable for making this wine are carefully double-sorted and brought to the winery for destemming. Fermentation takes place in steel containers with maceration on the skins for about 15-20 days and aging for about a year in barriques followed by several years in the bottle so that the wine comes out on the market only when ready.

Torgiano Riserva Vigna Monticchio fills the glass with its ruby color of great intensity. It reveals all its complexity right from the first olfaction, with a nose that tastes of plum, blackberry, dried violets, black pepper as well as a refreshing balsamic menthol streak. Then again sweetnesses such as chocolate and wafer. The sip sketches a full and persuasive wine, extremely tasty, flowing on the palate with its pronounced softness, perfectly balanced by the right freshness and savoriness. Great wine, capable of aging for decades and improve. An icon.
