VILLA GRESTI TENUTA SAN LEONARDO 2017 DESCRIPTION

Villa Gresti is an important label from Tenuta San Leonardo, named after the splendid 19th-century building, dedicated to Gemma de Gresti, and today the residence of the Guerrieri Gonzaga family that owns the estate. It is an elegant and structured red, clearly Bordeaux-inspired, reminiscent above all of the suave softness of the great wines of the right bank of the Garonne, connoted by very high percentages of Merlot. Harmonious and persuasive, it is excellent to taste immediately, but it has considerable aging potential, which can easily reach 20 years.

Villa Gresti wine comes from one of the largest and most important estates in Trentino. Tenuta San Leonardo has a total area of about 300 hectares, of which only about 30 are planted with vines. Varietal selection has favored the main international grape varieties that have acclimatized particularly well in these lands: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Merlot, Petit Vedot, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. The wine is a blend made with a majority percentage of Merlot, supplemented by a small balance of Carménère. The grapes come from estate vineyards about 10-20 years old, located in the hilly area of Avio, in the San Leonardo locality. The grapes are spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled cement tanks, with maceration on the skins lasting a few weeks, accompanied by periodic daily pumping-over and délestage. The wine ages in barrels for a period of 12 to 14 months and finishes its aging with a year in the bottle.

Tenuta San Leonardo's Villa Gresti red, is a label with a mellow, persuasive character, perfectly reflecting the personality of high quality Merlot Dark ruby color with faint garnet hues, it gives a bouquet of great richness and elegance, expressing aromas of red currants, blueberries, wild blackberries, red-fleshed plums, delicately spicy hints of vanilla, blond tobacco, underbrush and balsamic herbs. With good structure and aromatic persistence, it has soft, fine tannins wrapped in ample, ripe fruit that flows into a harmonious sip and a long, very balanced finish.
