Baraldo Giacomo
The Giacomo Baraldo winery was founded in San Casciano dei Bagni, in the far south of the province of Siena, in a border area dominated by Mount Cetona. The company has its roots in the 1990s as a family farm, initially consisting of woods, pastures and arable land, with no winemaking tradition. The spark for wine was ignited during a family lunch when, drinking two great reds, a world of indelible aromas and sensations opened up to Giacomo. Giacomo had an epiphany and his adolescent curiosity turned into a clear vocation. This experience led him to study viticulture and oenology, to plant his first vineyard and to build, vineyard after vineyard, an artisanal project deeply connected to his land.
The production method reflects a way of thinking that is free from labels and rigid definitions. Giacomo Baraldo's viticulture does not want to be defined: it is neither organic, biodynamic nor conventional, but simply artisanal. Dedicated to observation, study and continuous experimentation. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, the use of sulphur dioxide is carefully considered throughout the production process and vinification avoids invasive practices. Experimentation finds its maximum expression in wines fermented directly in the vineyard (a true unicum on the world stage), while the oenological approach remains technical, direct and pragmatic, matured thanks to international experiences in Bordeaux, Burgundy, Patagonia and New Zealand.
Giacomo Baraldo's wines reflect a unique territory, marked by high altitudes, calcareous soils and the influence of the thermal waters that characterise San Casciano dei Bagni. The wines are characterised by great tension, sapidity and precision, combining energy, depth and territorial legibility, without excessive extraction. The high-altitude Sangiovese is a true stylistic hallmark, with silky tannins and vibrant freshness, while the whites surprise with their structure and dynamism. Each label tells the story of a cru, an exposure, a sincere and distinctive idea of wine, designed to evolve over time and convey an authentic expression of this rare Tuscan 'climat'.
