Camut Adrien
The Camut family is a historic reality of Calvados: already in the 19th century, its members produced the prestigious apple distillate from Normandy and rented their still to families in the area. Thanks to the work and insights of Adrien Camut, whose figure is now surrounded by legendary contours, the Camut family, now in its seventh generation, has become a reference point for Calvados from the Pays d'Auge.
The first innovations of Adrien Camut date back to the 1930s and consisted of the design of new stills, inspired by those used in Charente for Cognac production. Starting from a long series of experiments, in the 1970s Adrien introduced changes to the shape of the boiler and the refrigeration systems that allowed him to distill very elegant, fragrant, and flavorful eaux-de-vie, subjected for the first time to long aging in barrels. Adrien Camut was the first producer to subject Calvados to long aging, obtaining high-quality distillates and reaching qualitative peaks until unprecedented for Calvados.
Today, the Camut distillery is run by Adrien's 3 sons who have inherited, in addition to the 45 hectares of land populated by the best and most prestigious apple varieties, a vast wealth of knowledge and traditions. Their Calvados does not resemble any other Calvados and retains something magical, thanks to the absolute respect for ancient traditions, combined with attention to every detail and a progressive and continuous search for perfection.
