Appleton Estate

Appleton Estate is the oldest sugar cane plantation and distillery in Jamaica and produces some of the world's most prestigious English-style Rum since 1749.

The plantation spans 4,251 hectares among the hills of the Nassau Valley, in the Cockpit Country. In this region, the geographical and climatic conditions are ideal for sugar cane cultivation: the Estate is located over 400 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains that rise 2,000 meters high, and the vegetation is wild and lush thanks to the warm sun and afternoon rains that make the land very fertile.

To produce its rums, Appleton uses natural ingredients, cultivated and selected directly from the Estate. The quality of each bottle is guaranteed by adherence to the Minimum ageing standards in rum aging: this means that each rum ages for at least the number of years stated on the label. The ingredients for this unique recipe are: 10 different types of sugar cane, natural yeast, and crystal-clear water naturally filtered from the limestone hills of the Cockpit Country.

In distillation, Appleton uses two types of stills: pot stills for producing more aromatic rums, characterized by a distinctive orange peel note; column stills, which give the rums a more balanced taste and a more intense aroma, along with notes of banana, coconut, and pineapple.

Appleton rum is aged in American oak barrels, previously used for Bourbon Whisky production, which impart a pronounced vanilla flavor and a softer, less woody character. The tropical climate also allows for aging that is 3 times faster than in a colder climate. Appleton rums are selected by Joy Spence, the world's first Master Blender with over 30 years of experience in creating and blending the finest rums. Every drop of Appleton Rum encapsulates Jamaican passion and spirit and a story of over 265 years.
