Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier

Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier is an estate located in the German region of Mosel. Its origins are ancient. Back in 1772, Archbishop Wenceslaus of Saxony established the Bischöfliche Priesterseminar under the name "Seminarium Clementinum", which still today serves as an important center for religious training in the Diocese of Trier. In 1840, the episcopal seminary Bischöfliches Konvikt was founded, with an estate of 37 hectares, which included magnificent vineyards located along the banks of the three main rivers of the area: Piesporter Goldtröpfchen and Avelsbacher on the Mosel, Ayler Kupp on the Saar, Eitelsbacher Marienholz and Kaseler Kehrnagel on the Ruwer. In 1851, the Foundation of the Hohe Domkirche was created, which owned an estate of 27 hectares with 6 hectares cultivated in the prized terroir of Scharzhofberger, in the Saar region.

From the subsequent merger of the wineries, Bischöfliches Konvikt, Bischöfliches Priesterseminar, and Hohe Domkirche, Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier was born in 1966, which is recognized as a true icon of the wines of territory. In the Mosel region, the Badstube area, with its 50 hectares facing south and southwest and the clay and slate soils, produces intense and structured wines, always characterized by extraordinary elegance and freshness. In the Saar area, the vineyards of Ayler Kupp are located on a steep slope of a hill with a very sunny southwest exposure and produce very fruity wines, with rich and intense aromas. Finally, in the Ruwer area, the vineyards are located near the village of Eitelsbach, already cultivated in Roman times and later farmed by Carthusian monks. The soils are stony, composed of slate and rich in iron minerals.

Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier has an extraordinary vineyard park, which allows for a range of high-quality wines, made according to the ancient traditions of the territory. Over 80% of the grapes are handpicked in steep and non-mechanizable vineyards. Today, the estate boasts a winery on three levels, built towards the end of the 1960s, covering an area of about
