Bodega Ventisquero

Bodega Ventisquero is one of the largest wine-producing realities in Chile, skilled at combining large numbers and exceptional quality. The winery is located in the Maipo Valley, but the vineyards extend from the Huasco area in the north of the country to Apalta, passing through the regions of Casablanca and Leyda. Each area has distinct characteristics, and from this territorial heterogeneity arises a broad and highly diversified production. The project began in 1996 and was officially launched three years later, at which point the estate began its flourishing and steady growth that has led it to over 500 hectares of vineyards today, made possible by a continuous push towards innovation and experimentation. The term “ventisquero” was widely used to refer to the ice masses of Patagonia, and the choice of this name aims to pay homage to Chilean Patagonia and its glaciers.

As mentioned, the vineyards owned by the Ventisquero winery are located in different areas that differ in climate and soil types: the desert soils of the Huasco Valley, partly rich in clay and limestone stones and partly alluvial sand, require irrigation to keep the plants healthy; in the Casablanca area, the climate is decidedly cooler and benefits from the influence of the Pacific Ocean, while the soils consist of red clay and altered granite; in Leyda, the maritime influence is also strong, with the plants resting on alluvial and marine clays; partly sandy and partly clayey soils are found in the Maipo Valley; finally, the rows of the Apalta Valley are located at the foot of the mountains, on sloping clayey and sandy soils at the valley bottom. Clearly, the altitudes also vary greatly from area to area, ranging from 150 to 500 meters above sea level. In the vineyard and winery, the use of technology is aimed solely at obtaining great wines while paying great attention to environmental protection by minimizing the impact on nature.
