Bodegas Loli Casado

Bodegas Loli Casado is located in Lapuebla de Labarca in Álava, in the heart of the prestigious Rioja Alavesa region, in one of the best terroirs in all of Spain for the production of great reds. Loli Casado inherited the family business in 2000 and has since managed the estate with a meticulous attention to detail, which translates into a range of high-quality artisanal wines. The family has been cultivating these lands for three generations and still follows practices and a philosophy linked to the best traditions of the past: great attention to the vineyard and territory, respect for the environment and the natural ecosystem, and a winemaking process based on simplicity, with the desire to produce typical and straightforward wines.

Rioja Alavesa is a land always dedicated to vine cultivation, since ancient times, and it developed especially after the colonization of the Iberian Peninsula by the ancient Romans. The region extends between the Sierra de Cantabria and the left bank of the Ebro River. It occupies a total area of a length about 40 kilometers long and 15 wide. From a climatic point of view, it enjoys very favorable conditions. It is protected by the mountain ranges of the Sierra from disturbances coming from the north, and the land gently slopes from the hills towards the Ebro valley, with sunny exposures facing south, ensuring excellent ripening of the grapes, with particularly intense aromas.

The estate was created in 1920 with the purchase of a first vineyard, which still today represents the historical core of the company and the memory of the past. Thanks to some acquisitions made in the 1970s and in recent years, today the property extends over a total area of 20 hectares, divided into numerous plots. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 450 and 520 meters above sea level and are characterized by the presence of rather heterogeneous soils, ranging from the sandy and pebbly soils of the banks of the Ebro river to the calcareous-clay or sandstone-rich soils of the more inland area. The vines are cultivated on terraces in gentle slope, which hosts the main grape varieties of the area: Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Graciano, and Viura. The harvests are carried out with manual collection and selection of the grapes, which are then quickly transported to the winery for vinification.
