Bowmore

Near Bowmore, the capital of the great Scottish island of Islay, stands the distillery of the same name, the oldest and most prestigious on the island. Among coves and rocky bays, the distillery is located on the shores of Loch Indaal, where the cold blue waves of the North Sea crash violently and the sea breezes penetrate into the houses. The Bowmore distillery was founded in 1779 by John Simpson and experienced, over the centuries, alternating fortunes: in the mid-1800s it was expanded and renovated by James Mutter, a new eclectic owner; during World War II production was halted to accommodate RAF seaplanes; in 1994 it was purchased by the Japanese multinational Suntory Ltd. Despite frequent renovations and changes in management, Bowmore has maintained artisanal production methods and the original Malting Floor, where the malt is spread out and dried over peat fires.

The great Single Malts of Bowmore are the result of the combination of pure, fresh water from the small Laggan river, malted barley smoked on the Malting Floor, and long aging in fine oak barrels. The large warehouse where the full barrels ......rest is the prestigious 'n.1 Vauts', famous for being the oldest in all of Scotland and the only one located below sea level. Here, in total darkness and extremely cold humidity, the peated whisky reaches one of its finest expressions, the one that bears the name Bowmore.

Acclaimed worldwide for its impeccable and sensational organoleptic properties, Bowmore whisky possesses the personality and character of great artisanal distillates, to which is associated a slight briny flavor derived from its proximity to the sea and the storage of barrels in the warehouse. With a unique and unrepeatable character, the whisky that comes from the sea retains unique properties and aromas, capable of astonishing both the connoisseur and the occasional drinker, united by the same wonder.
