Bret Brothers
Bret Brothers is a small high-end négociant from Domaine de la Soufreandiére, producing great white wines from Mâconnais and red wines from Beaujolais. Although the ownership is French, the maison has an Anglo-Saxon name that comes from a business anecdote. Marc-Antoine, Jean-Guillaume, and Jean-Philippe Bret were called Bret Brothers by Becky Wasserman, an American wine merchant, and by Jean-Marie Guffens, an intern at the estate from 1995 to 1996. Since the three owners at the time were looking for a name for their new business initiative, they decided to choose Bret Bros for the new brand. Thus, in 2001, Bret Bros was born, beginning its adventure in the world of great Burgundy wines.
Despite being a young reality, Bret Bros can count on great experience. The Bret family is also the owner of Domaine de la Soufreandiére, located in Vinzelles, in the South Mâconnais. A historic estate in the area that has been producing great wines for generations from grapes sourced from prized vineyards of ownership. Bret Bros was born with the goal of ensuring the same level of excellence by offering a range of labels made with grapes purchased from selected local vignerons, who passionately cultivate particularly suited parcels located in high-quality terroirs. All purchased grapes come from certified organic estates or those in conversion and are hand-harvested by the Bret Bros team, which ensures a careful selection of the best bunches directly in the vineyard.
In the cellar, rigorous winemaking protocols are also followed, with spontaneous fermentations using only indigenous yeasts and long aging carried out with the same care reserved for the wines of Domaine de la Soufreandiére. Thanks to this négociant activity, Bret Bros is able to offer a much wider and consistently interesting collection of wines, with labels from important Appellations, including: Mâcon, Viré-Clessé, Pouilly-Loché, Pouilly-Fuissé, Beaujolais-Villages, Beaujolais-Lantignié, and the famous crus of Beaujolais: Brouilly, Juliénas, Fleurie, and Saint-Amour.
