Bruna

The Bruna winery in Liguria is a small organic establishment located in Ranzo, in the province of Imperia, recognized as a wine excellence of the region based on three key values: passion, quality, and sustainability. It was Riccardo Bruna who started the wine production in 1970, beginning to bottle the wine made from the family's historic Pigato vineyards, a bold choice at the time. His father-in-law, Virginio Capello, a visionary farmer, immediately supported him by planting new vineyards in Ortovero, and in the following years, the estate expanded while maintaining its artisanal size. Currently, it is Francesca and Annamaria Bruna, Riccardo's daughters, who manage the winery, having given up their respective careers in engineering and pharmaceuticals to return to their roots and embrace the land.

The Bruna family-run estate has about 8 hectares, mainly dedicated to Pigato, an indigenous biotype of Vermentino, planted on the typical Ligurian terraces supported by stone walls and surrounded by olive trees, oaks, holm oaks, and Mediterranean scrub.Mediterranean. In the hinterland of Albenga, this grape variety benefits from a unique microclimate, the result of the simultaneous influence of breezes from the Ligurian Sea and the proximity to the imposing Maritime Alps. The organic farming and the soils composed of iron-rich clay and limestone do the rest, allowing the harvest of grapes of extraordinary quality in harmony with the local flora and fauna. Besides Pigato, the Bruna family cultivates Granaccia, Rossese, and other black grape varieties. Stainless steel tanks are used for fermentations, the same wine containers where the aging process of some wines takes place, while others are aged in large or small wooden barrels.

Under the Riviera Ligure di Ponente denomination, the Bruna winery produces some of the most refined and authentic expressions of Pigato, characterized by a memorable mineral vein. Leading the selection is the label 'U Baccan', whose name pays tribute to the father of Francesca and Annamaria, nicknamed "U Baccan", meaning "the boss" indialect.
